Biographie de Lou Stoumen
Lou Stoumen est né en 1917 à Springtown, Pennsylvanie et décédé le 20 Septembre 1991 à Sébastopol en Californie. Il a terminé ses études à l’Université Lehigh à Bethléem, Pennsylvanie en 1939. Avant le début de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, il a travaillé comme journaliste indépendant et photographe à New York. Pendant cette période, il a fait beaucoup de photographies de Time Square pour laquelle il était le mieux connu. Une sélection d’entre-elles a été rassemblée dans le livre »Time Square : 45 Ans de Photographies. » En 1945, Lou Stoumen s’est installé en Californie, où il a commencé une carrière dans le tournage cinématographique. Il a reçu des Oscars pour ses productions documentaires « la Vraie Histoire de la Guerre civile » (1957) et « le Renard Noir » (1964). De 1966 à 1986 il a enseigné la production de films à U.C.L.A. Vers la fin de sa vie il a emménagé à Sébastopol en Californie.
En plus de son volume de photographies de Time Square, Lou Stoumen a publié neuf autres livres de photographie.
