08 Dec 1955, New York, New York, USA — The famed Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, this year a Norway spruce 65 feet high, lights up the plaza and the skating rink as the switch is thrown, December 8th, on some 2,500 bulbs and 1,400 globes: red, white, blue and yellow. This was the 23rd consecutive year for the spectacular display in the heart of New York.

 

16 Feb 1958, Manhattan, New York, New York, USA — Youngsters frolicking through the snow in Central Park as New York’s skyscrapers in the background form this picture postcard setting during today’s snowstorm. The East Coast from Northern Virginia to Boston is cowering under the winter’s worst snowstorm, lashed out of the skies with stinging 35MPH winds. The blizzard is expected to leave New York in the afternoon with an accumulation of 8 to 10 inches in its wake.
